Our beautiful and much-loved Mum, Granny, Sister and Auntie, Joan, was a very special person who meant so much to us all. She will be dearly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know and love her.
Joan was a well-loved parishioner of The Immaculate Conception Church in Maryhill and a wonderful neighbour to many friends in Summerston, first at Craigbo Drive and later at Portmarnock Drive.
She spent most of her working life at East Park in Maryhill, where she began her career as a domestic cleaner before moving into a caring role. She continued working as a care worker until her retirement, dedicating many years of her life to helping others.
Joan spent her early years growing up in Anderston alongside her siblings, Monica, Robert and Brian, before the family moved to Reelick Avenue in Yoker. It was during her time in Anderston that Joan caught the eye of George McConville, who lived on Elderslie Street. Their love story led to their marriage on 26 October 1963 at St Brendan’s RC Church. Together, they went on to build a family and welcome two sons, George and Robert.
One of the greatest joys of Joan’s later years was becoming a Granny. She was overjoyed at the arrival of her first grandson, Declan, in February 2000, who absolutely adored his Granny. Their special bond brought Joan so much happiness and created precious memories that will be treasured forever.
