Marion Emily Sarah Wilkinson passed away at home on Friday 2nd October 2026 aged 93.
Marion was born in St John's Wood, London in 1932.During the war she was evacuated to relatives in Pembrokeshire. When Marion was 11 her parents were killed when a doodlebug hit their London home, Marion was in Wales at the time. This tragic event instilled Marion with a determination to enjoy life and make the best of everything.Qualities she carried throughout her 93 years.
After a brief stint with the civil service,Marion trained at West Middlesex Hospital to become a nurse, firstly with children and then on to the geriatric ward at Wokingham Hospital in Berkshire. In 1974 she became Sister in Charge of The Manor House in Maghull, caring for residents with severe epilepsy and moderate learning disabilities. The residents adored her loving, caring, approach. She would do all she could to ensure each person received the best care, often involving her own family, especially at Christmas when her husband Mike, son Paul or a willing family friend would visit the Manor House dressed as Father Christmas, then her family and friends would serve the festive meal ; singing carols and giving out presents with Santa.
Marion married Mike in 1963. They often moved with their jobs, living in Cardiff, Teddington, Birmingham, Berkshire and finally Maghull. Together they spent a lifetime making a difference in the communities in which they lived, as Civil Defence volunteers in the 1960's, shopping for "elderly" friends when Marion was in her 80's, raising funds for the Royal Air Force Association and supporting the development of Arts & Disability work in Berkshire.
Marion loved to travel with Mike, often with their dear friends Betty & John or Elsie & Brian. Together they explored Canada, South Africa, The Caribbean, Scandinavia and the USA and the UK.
Throughout her life, Marion cared for others, not just in thought but in deeds...
Too often we underestimate the power of touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Leo Buscglia.
Marion leaves a son and daughter, both of whom she loved dearly.
