In Loving Memory of Graham Johnson,
It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Graham, while at home with his wife Lesley, at the age of 73.
In many ways, that feels very fitting. He always kept us guessing and never let anyone know what his next move would be. He was spontaneous to his core, forever planning the next trip, the next idea, the next adventure. He had an endless urge to travel, to seek out something new, and to make the very most of life. We like to think that this is simply the next in his great adventures.
Dad was charismatic, cheeky, upbeat, opinionated and wonderfully outspoken. He never came with a filter, and he had the sort of energy that filled every room he walked into. He could provoke a slightly Marmite response – some people found him completely endearing, others found him a little frustrating – but thankfully, so many people fell firmly into the side of love.
He leaves behind so many stories, so much laughter, and so many people who loved him dearly.
We hope to give him the kind of send-off he would have wanted: bright, uplifting and full of warmth.
The service will take place at 1:00pm on Friday 1st May 2026 at St Peter’s Church, Newton-le-Willows, followed by cremation at St Helens Crematorium and then a wake at the Stanley Arms in St Helens.
We would love people to wear whatever colour they feel most comfortable in. We do not feel it is right for everybody to be in black, and we would like the day to feel as bright, uplifting and full of life as he was. But if wearing black feels right to you, that is absolutely okay too.
He will be missed beyond words, and remembered always.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Age UK and the British Heart Foundation.
Age UK was a cause very close to Dad’s heart. He cared deeply about the way older people are treated in the UK and was passionate about improving the support, dignity and care they receive.
We would also like to support the British Heart Foundation in recognition of the way he passed, following complications from a heart attack. We hope that, through these donations, something positive might come from our loss. http://bit.ly/4mB8Jrb
