If you would like to remember John with a gift in his memory, you can donate to his nominated charities.
John Rowland Ridgwell sadly passed away on 4th August 2026 after a short illness.
John was born in Hemel Hempstead and worked in Clinical Biochemistry at hospitals in St. Albans and Hemel Hempstead Hospital for 36 years. He will be hugely missed as a husband, brother, uncle and friend to many who have spoken of his kindness and sense of humour. He moved to Redbourn in 1991 and has made many friends in the village through volunteer work, including driving and a 26-year involvement with Redbourn Village Museum, ultimately serving as Chairman.
John’s wife and family have asked that instead of flowers they would like any donations to be made to the Redbourn Community Group or The Stroke Association. Some years ago, the Ridgwell family donated a significant sum of money to help fund a new minibus for their local Community Group which offers transport to medical appointments as well as outings for elderly or lonely folk. The time has come for that essential vehicle to be replaced. Although John’s illness was sudden and he deteriorated too rapidly to receive help from the Stroke Association, his wish was to support an appropriate medical charity.
If desired, you can donate to the Redborn Community Group via the 'donate' button at the bottom of the page or to the Stroke Association via the following link: www.stroke.org.uk/donate-jtfp26
