With heavy hearts, we share the news of Ian Ronald Drake's passing on Monday, May 5th, 2025, at the age of 79. A devoted and beloved husband, father, grandad, brother, uncle and friend, Ian's absence will be deeply felt by all fortunate enough to have known him.
Ian's life was a testament to unwavering loyalty, profound kindness, and a deep love for those around him. His dedication to his wife, Dympna, and his daughters, Katy and Elizabeth, exemplified the strong family bonds that were central to his world. Later in life, he embraced the role of a terrific Grandad to his grandson, Christopher, who brought him immense pride and joy. They will forever hold his memory close.
A man of many sporting passions, Ian found great joy (and occasional frustration!) on the golf course, proudly serving as the Senior Club Captain at Chelsfield Lakes Golf Club during his retirement. He was also a lifelong, dedicated supporter of Charlton Athletic Football Club.
Above all, Ian treasured the moments spent with his family and friends. His warmth, kindness, and steadfast loyalty made him a truly dependable and cherished presence in their lives. Ian leaves behind a legacy woven with love, a wonderful sense of humour, strong camaraderie, and the enduring importance of family. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Ian.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Bluebell Cemetery and Crematorium. Following the service, a wake will be held nearby at Chelsfield Lakes Golf Club from 4:00 PM. For those attending, please wear something colourful and comfortable.
Flowers are welcome. Due to the exceptional end of life care that Ian received at St Christopher's Hospice donations to the hospice are preferred.
