Dear family, friends, and loved ones,
As I stand here today, I find it hard to sum up the life of a woman who meant so much to all of us. My mum was more than just a mother. She was a devoted wife, a caring grandmother, and a great-grandmother who cherished her family with all her heart. She was a friend to many, a neighbour who was respected by those around her, and a beacon of kindness, strength, and resilience.
Mum faced many challenges in her life, but she never complained, not once. She was very good at school, but her family could not afford for her to go further. When we lost Dad far too early at the age of fifty-three, she continued with remarkable grace. For ten years, she cared for him when he could no longer work, giving him her strength, her love, and her endless patience. That was the kind of person she was—selfless, dedicated, always putting others first, even when life was difficult for her. Mum always like to visit me and her grandchildren as frequently as possible to places such as China and Thailand.
As a mother to my brothers and me, she was everything we could have asked for—our rock, our comfort, our guide. Her love for us was unconditional, and she always encouraged us to be the best we could be. And as a grandmother and great-grandmother, she lit up every room with her warmth and her smile. Her grandchildren adored her, and she cherished every moment with them.
In her later years, Mum’s health began to fade, but her spirit never did. She showed the same quiet strength and grace she had throughout her life. It wasn’t always easy for her, but even when she was in pain, she remained kind, gentle, and always thinking of others.
Mum, you taught us so much about life and about love, about family, and about the strength it takes to face life’s hardest moments with dignity and grace. I am forever grateful for everything you gave me and for all the ways you made my life richer and better. I will carry your lessons with me for the rest of my days.
There were times when we would talk about life, about Dad, and about everything we’d been through as a family. And in those quiet moments, you would remind me of how much we are loved, even through loss. I will miss those conversations, Mum, but I know you are now at peace, reunited with Dad and your elder son Peter, watching over us as you always have.
To everyone who has come today, and to those who have sent their tributes and condolences, I want to say thank you. Your presence, your kindness, and your support mean more than words can express. I’d also like to extend my deepest gratitude to all the caregivers, doctors, and staff who took care of Mum during her final years, ensuring she was as comfortable as possible.
We are grateful for every act of kindness shown during this time of loss.
Mum, you lived a long, full life. You gave us your all, and we are so proud of the woman you were. We love you, and we will miss you dearly.
Rest in peace, Mum.
