In Loving Memory of Lilia “Mama Lilia” Mamorno
1950 – 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we remember and celebrate the life of Lilia Mamorno, lovingly known as Mama Lilia, who passed away at the age of 76.
Born in Pangasinan, Philippines, Mama Lilia carried the warmth of her homeland, the strength of her roots and an unwavering love for her family throughout her life. Speaking Pangasinan, Ilocano and Tagalog, she remained deeply connected to her Filipino heritage, even as her journey took her from the Philippines to Bahrain and eventually to Epsom, United Kingdom.
One of nine children, Mama Lilia shared a special bond with her two sisters. Together, they were affectionately known as the Tres Marias.
Mama Lilia’s life was one of resilience, hard work and selfless devotion. She spent over a decade working in Bahrain alongside her sister, making sacrifices and spending precious years away from her loved ones to help provide a better future for her family in the Philippines. She later moved to the UK to join her son and daughter-in-law, beginning a new chapter of her life in Epsom. Through every journey and every sacrifice, her love for her family never wavered.
She was a devoted mother to five children, two sons and three daughters; a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, four girls and four boys; and a loving great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren, one girl and one boy. With her family spread between the Philippines and the UK, distance could never diminish the love that bound them together.
Family was the heart of Mama Lilia’s world. She was a loving, caring and thoughtful woman who always found ways to bring comfort and happiness to those around her. Whether through a kind gesture, a reassuring word or her special way of making people smile, she made others feel loved and welcome.
One of her greatest expressions of love was through cooking. She lived to cook for the people she loved, bringing family together around the table and creating memories that will be treasured for generations. She also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially a cheeky game of bingo. Playful at times and firm when needed, she had a wonderful spirit and a warmth that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life. Through the Rosary Crusaders in Epsom, she found fellowship, friendship and a community united in prayer. She shared her faith by attending Mass, singing in the Filipino choir and joining pilgrimages. Her presence, companionship and devotion will be fondly remembered by all who prayed, sang and walked alongside her in faith.
At 76, Mama Lilia leaves behind a legacy of love, sacrifice, strength and faith. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; in the meals and traditions that brought her family together; in the languages and heritage she proudly carried; and in the friendships and memories she leaves within her community.
Although our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that the love she gave will never be lost. She will live on in every family gathering, every familiar recipe, every song of faith, every shared prayer and every memory that brings us back to her.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Mama Lilia, we give thanks for her life, her sacrifices, her kindness and the countless ways she made our world a warmer place. May the Lord welcome her into His loving embrace and grant her eternal rest.
Rest peacefully, Mama Lilia. Thank you for the love you gave so freely, the sacrifices you made so selflessly and the faith you shared so generously. You will forever remain in our hearts, across generations and across oceans, lovingly remembered and deeply missed.
Paalam, Mama Lilia. Mananatili ka sa aming mga puso magpakailanman.
Farewell, Mama Lilia. You will remain in our hearts forever.
