Mr David Charles Barwick was and always will be a beloved father ( dear old dad), grandfather ( pops - poor old pensioner) and husband. His sense of humour was second to none which many who knew him got to enjoy and experience while in his company. I can assure you he never lost it, no matter what he faced. As his daughter I remember lots of giggles with him watching silly films like Airplane and Young Frankenstein. I loved listening to him laugh, it was infectious.

I learnt about the natural world alongside dad who had a keen interest in all things nature. We watched David Attenborough together, explored woodlands collecting Chestnuts, explored rock pools at the beach on holidays and went for walks in the countryside around our home together to see what birds we could see and listen to. Dad loved birds and was often found with binoculars around his neck for a spot of bird watching. He knew so much about gardening, wildlife and nature. I wanted to soak up his knowledge. He kept the most wonderful garden.

Dad was an intelligent and complex man, not everyone may know that he was a talented and keen runner in his youth or that he was a talented painter and even a budding photographer before he became unwell. I remember his lovely watercolour landscape scenes being on display in our living room as a child.

What most will remember about dad is his love for rock music. For me this meant an incredible education rocking out to the juke box at the pub, having a dance if the music and the number of guinesses were right, first real rock concerts with him to see Slash, listening to the music loud (because it absolutely 'had to be played loud ' ) in the car and at home. AC/DC Thunderstruck played as my alarm clock no later than 10am most mornings because no one should sleep past 10am according to dad! That was dad!

He would be found propping up the bar with friends at the pub most nights. He had a keen social side and many in his local village considered him a gentleman and a good man and enjoyed his charming company and good wit. He was a keen card player too and enjoyed to play games with friends. I enjoyed chats afterwards over cheese and crackers with him. Dad loved a spot of cheese! Especially Truckle cheddar!

Something else not everyone may realise about dad is the absolute resilience he possessed within himself. He faced it all with hope and unyielding courage and a positivity of which I was in awe. Something else not all would appreciate was that he gave the best cuddles! I celebrate my wonderful father today and every day and encourage all that knew and loved him to do the same. Here's to you dad! Cheers!
