It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Matilda Laporte announces her passing on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, at the grand age of 94. Jean passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Jean will be dearly missed by her daughters, Beverley and Christine; her granddaughters, Elizabeth, Hannah, Kate and Joanne; and her great-grandchildren, Jamie, Amber, Imogen, Freya and Harry. Jean is now reunited with her daughter Carole and her granddaughter Nadine.
Born in Stepney to Charles and Matilda Martin, Jean was the cherished big sister of Audrey and Patricia. The family moved to Pinner in the 1940s, where Jean went to local primary and secondary schools before taking a commercial course at Kilburn Technical College. Over the years, Jean lived in Stanmore, Bricket Wood, Barton Hills and Guildford, before spending her later years in the care of Belmont View in Hoddesdon.
Jean was blessed with two great loves. She married her first husband, Oscar Laporte, in 1951, sharing twenty-three years together until his passing in 1974. She found love again and, after many years together, married James Cunningham on his 90th birthday. James passed in 2010.
Always so stylish, Jean was known for her joie de vivre, whether she was dancing, cruising, travelling or enjoying art and opera. Above all, she will be remembered for her strong spirit, passionate nature and deep love for her family and friends.
Jean’s Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, 14 August 2026 at 12:30 pm at Woollensbrook Crematorium, Hertford Road, EN11 9BS. All are welcome to attend. Jean's family would be delighted if those attending wore a touch of colour in her memory. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the British Heart Foundation.
