Mr John Frederick William Street was born on April 3rd, 1940 at Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire, the same stately location as his beloved eventual wife, Helen.
He studied at the prestigious Verulam School of St. Albans where he kindled a love of academia that he persuded through his life, eventually obtaining degrees at the Open University and the University of Sussex.
A devoted husband to Helen and loving Father to Amanda and Jeremy, John was a consistently voracious reader and keen sportsman throughout his 86 years. He enriched his relationship with his former school by excelling for many years with the Old Verulamium Rugby Football Club.
Following relocation to Essex in 1985, John became passionately involved in the playing and social life of Thorpe Bay Lawn Tennis Club, whilst retaining his love of other sports.
Repeated career advancements with the Woolwich Building Society enabled him to provide safe family homes in which there abounded abiding love, quiet and security.
An accomplished bass, he enthusiastically sang in a selection of local choirs including the Southend Festival Chorus, Gaudeamus and occasionally St. Augustine's, in whose chorus he shared with Amanda and Helen.
After retirement, though profoundly lamenting the loss of Helen, he delighted to follow his daughter's astronomical research and his son's path through libraries.
In latter years, he became passionate about bridge, travel and deepening his enriching enjoyment of friends and family.
He sadly passed away in Southend University Hospital on 8th July 2026 surrounded by family.
He is greatly missed and his memory will long be cheished.
