It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Cruickshank, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on March 7, 2026, at the age of 96. Charles was born on May 7, 1929, in the vibrant city of Manchester to his loving parents, Charles and Bella. His remarkable journey through life was marked by adventure, love, and an unwavering spirit.

Charles lived a life filled with remarkable achievements and precious moments. As a young man, he answered the call of duty and served as a pilot during his National Service, an experience that ignited his lifelong passion for aviation. His career as an Airline Pilot took flight with Britannia Airlines before he transitioned to becoming a Training Captain for Cathay Pacific. Charles later dedicated his expertise as a Flight Inspector for the Hong Kong government until his well-deserved retirement. Throughout his career, he was deeply respected for his professionalism and commitment to ensuring the safety of the skies.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Charles was a true gentleman, known for his warmth and generosity. He had a love for fly fishing, clay pigeon shooting, and other country pursuits, which perfectly complemented his fondness for wildlife. His storytelling ability was legendary, captivating all who had the pleasure of listening to his tales of travels and adventures.

Charles shared his life with three remarkable women. He married his second wife, Janet, in 1971, and together they welcomed their beloved daughter, Alexandra, into the world. In 1985, Charles found love again with Grace, with whom he shared many joyful years until her passing in 2021. His legacy lives on through his daughter, Alexandra, and his cherished granddaughter, Eva.

Charles's life will be celebrated on April 14, 2026, at 12:00 PM at D Gunn's Chapel, located on Blackwalls Street, Dingwall IV15 9NW. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to The Guide Dogs for the Blind, an organization close to Charles's heart.

All welcome for a funeral tea at The Ben Wyvs Hotel in Strathpeffer following the service.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Acute Surgical Unit at Raigmore Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness during Charles's final hours. They also express heartfelt thanks to his carers at Home Care Scotland, who became like family to him in his later years.

Charles Cruickshank leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and cherished memories. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will forever soar in the hearts of those he touched.
