James Harmey (24 June 1957 – 9 June 2026)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Harmey, known to many as Jim, who died on 9 June 2026 at the age of 68.
Born and raised in Glasgow, James spent many years working as a tour guide throughout Europe, sharing his knowledge, enthusiasm and love of travel with countless people before eventually retiring to his hometown of Maryhill.
James was a devoted father to his two daughters, Pamela and Faye, who meant the world to him. Music was one of his greatest passions and was rarely absent from his day, often playing from morning until night. Whether enjoying old favourites or discovering something new, there was almost always a soundtrack accompanying his daily life. He was also a keen plane spotter and took great pleasure in following his lifelong interest in aviation.
James will be remembered for his warmth, humour, and the immense love and pride he had for his family, particularly his daughters. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Requiem Mass will be held at St Joseph’s RC Church, Milngavie, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday 22 June 2026, followed by a service at Maryhill Crematorium.
Family and friends are warmly invited to gather afterwards at Killermont Polo Club for food, tea and coffee, and to share memories of James together.
Donations in James memory may be made to the Dogs Trust, where he rescued his beloved dog Zahne.
