Norman Wearne was born on Monday 12th December 1921. He was the only son of James and Dora Wearne. He was born in the Isle of Wight and moved to Lymington in 1922, where he lived for over 100 years. It was in Lymington that he met his wife, Dorothy Soden, at Wellworthy's social club. He was happily married for over 65 years. They had 2 daughters, Darryl and Sue. Norman was a local worker at Wellworthy's where he was a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer and worked there for 47 and a half years. During the war he joined the Home Guard and Town band and he was in a reserve occupation where he did 12 hour shifts followed by Fire Watch which he undertook in rotation throughout the night. In 2022 Norman moved up Harpenden to be near his daughter and granddaughter. He spent just over 3 happy years at Willow Court Care home, where he made friends and a new life for himself. Norman passed peacefully away on Thursday 9th October 2025 with his daughter, Sue, by his side.
