LORNA HOLMES

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorna Holmes, aged 83.

A devoted mother to Jill, Tina and Jeremy, much-loved grandmother to Simon, Max, Gabriella and Oscar, and proud great-grandmother to Art, Lorna will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born in Wigan, Lorna served in the WRAC, joining in 1960, where she met her husband, Brian. Lorna was widowed in 2008.

Lorna had a lifelong love of travel, exploring many parts of the world before settling in West Ilsley for 20 years and later making Newbury her home for the past 30 years.

She dedicated 20 years of service as Manager of the RSPCA Charity Shop in Cheap Street, Newbury, where she became a familiar and friendly face in the community until the shop’s closure.

In retirement, Lorna remained active and sociable. She was a talented and much-admired member of the Shaw Social Club Skittles team, earning a reputation as one of its top players, and she generously volunteered her time at Newbury Library. Lorna was a regular churchgoer, and St Nicholas Church and St John’s Church both held special meaning for her.

Lorna will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, sense of humour and unwavering love for her family. She is also greatly missed by her long-time companion, Adrian, whose love and companionship brought her much happiness in later years.

A service to celebrate Lorna’s life will be held at St Nicholas Church, Newbury, on Wednesday 29th July 2026 at 2.00 pm, followed by a gathering in the church hall. All are welcome to attend. There is no dress code.

Family flowers only, please. Donations in Lorna’s memory are welcome to Cats Protection, Hermitage https://www.cats.org.uk/berkshire
