It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jacob Amate Mensah, who departed this life on July 11, 2025, in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, at the age of 78. Born on April 11, 1947, Jacob lived a life devoted to healing, teaching, and uplifting others.
Jacob was a man of remarkable intellect, dedicated to life-long learning. He earned an undergraduate degree from Staffordshire University, an MBA in Management from Aston University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from Buckinghamshire University. His career in the National Health Service (NHS) began in mental health and evolved into university lecturing. As one of the early adopters of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in clinical practice, Jacob contributed meaningfully to modern approaches in mental health treatment.
He was a man of depth, humour, and generosity of spirit. Jacob was a keen footballer and athlete in his youth. He had a passion for soul music, and literature on philosophy, politics, and religion —interests that often sparked spirited conversations with friends and family.
He is survived by his beloved children: Jessica Ammah (née Mensah), Andrea Mensah-Cuomo, Charlotte Mensah, and Nathan Davies as well as many cherished extended family members and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
One of Jacob’s proudest achievements was founding a secondary school in Ghana that has helped disadvantaged teenagers gain access to university education. His contribution of compassion, mentorship, and advocacy will live on through all who knew him.
Jacob will be remembered for his wisdom, kindness, charisma, and unwavering determination. He leaves behind a legacy of love, education, and resilience.
All are welcome to attend his funeral service.
