Ian Charles Norman Smith, brother, father, boss, sergeant major, fundraiser, friend, grandfather, godfather and husband to Maureen.
Kindness, compassion and perhaps somewhat surprising for a former squaddie - emotion - are words that are associated with Ian, he unlike many of his generation did not hide behind a stiff upper lip, and one word that has popped up frequently from others has been Gentleman.
Ian truly loved the people in his life and he made sure to tell us. Something that I feel he would dearly love all of us all to take forward and tell often to those who matter to us.
He once shared a verse on Remembrance Day, within which was a line that said 'I've never been a hero, but I've walked amongst a few' and I think that sums him up. Proud of his achievements whether that was his beautiful garden and hanging baskets, to raising a staggering amount of money for RAFA, but never one to take the glory.
