On Wednesday 12th March, Edward David Arthur Pike (Eddie) of St Athan passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Eddie was born on the 11th October 1947 in Cardiff to Phyllis and Jack Pike and he was one of six children.
Eddie was a real family man, he loved many sports and activities throughout his life, both watching and playing. He was an active member of the darts teams in Llantwit and Cowbridge, he kept himself busy during his retirement , he participated in swimming, keep fit club and choir where he met many new friends.
In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing across Britain but he also went on trips to Ireland with his brother Fred, his nephews and friends and would come back with some great stories especially the different pubs they visited. He played lots of different sports during his life including football and badminton and he was a lifelong fan of Manchester United Football Club.
He enjoyed a long retirement where he picked up his passion for carpentry and made all sorts of things from wishing wells to garden furniture collaborating with his friend and neighbour Dave, they would regularly work all day in their gardens helping each other.
His main hobby was gardening and in the summer his flowers would have rivalled the Chelsea flower show with their colours and design, he spent many hours working in the garden, chatting to his neighbours and was at his happiest there with his cap on and a cup of tea.
Eddie also enjoyed many holidays abroad with his family and his friends and was a real lover of the sunshine. He leaves behind his loving wife Carol who he was happily married to for 50 years, his three children, Catherine, Nicola and David and ten grandchildren, Rhian, Zoe, Bethany, Lewys, Tyler, Oliver, Teigan, Tahliya, Megan and Mylez.
Eddie was a wonderful loving character who will be missed immensely by all his family and friends.
