It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Miss Karis Lydia Yvonne Jones (“K”, “Aunty Karis”), age 87, who peacefully transitioned at home in Hounslow on Saturday 12th April, 2025.
Karis was born in Kingston, Jamaica on 14th August 1937, the second child of parents, Clifford Charles Jones (CC Jones) and Beryl Jones.
After graduating from St Andrew High School for girls, Karis started her career in Nursing at the University College Hospital in Kingston Jamaica after which she migrated to the UK in 1962 to continue her nursing career.
Karis undertook specialist Midwifery training in the UK and for her, one of the highlights of her work as a midwife was being present in the room when Princess Margaret gave birth to one of her children.
Karis had a deep thirst and enthusiasm for learning and gained various qualifications in different fields throughout her life. In addition to her nursing and midwifery training, she also completed the cancer training course at the Royal Marsden Hospital where she worked. She later left her nursing career to pursue an Economics degree and subsequently worked with Techniks and later Technon where she was to spend most of her working life as a Market Research Consultant.
A Nursing and Midwifery qualification and an Economics qualification were not enough to assuage Karis’ deep desire for knowledge, and whilst still working at Technon she obtained her law degree and completed the next stage towards solicitor qualification the LPC or Legal Practice course. She had plans to complete qualification as a solicitor and to open up a legal practice with her partner Beresford (Berry) in due course, but this was not to be as Berry sadly passed away shortly after his own LPC qualification. Karis continued working at Technon until her retirement.
Karis leaves behind her beloved brother Clifford Keith Jones (Keith), sister in law Mavis, and many cherished cousins with whom she kept in regular contact, as well as a host of other family and friends.
Karis will truly be missed by all and will never be forgotten.
