It is with great sadness that the family of Mr Romney Charles Turner, 72 announce his passing on August 12 2025 after a short battle with cancer.
Rom passed away peacefully with his brother Lester by his side at his home in Royal Leamington Spa.
Rom (affectionately known as 'Big-un' by his friends) will be greatly missed by his surviving brothers Warwick, Lester and Dudley and their families.
Rom went to St Paul's School then Campion High School followed by Leamington College sixth form, this led him on to a 28 year career with the Post Office. Rom traveled to work by bike and skateboard his need for speed meant that it was not unusual for him to work behind the counter without knees in his trousers.
Rom was active in numerous duties at St Paul's Church and the church gave Rom comfort after the loss of his son Brett just before his 2nd Birthday.
Rom in his youth was a keen sportsman playing football and rugby for the school and raising money taking part in charity events including swims and walks. He was also a proficient diver regularly ejected from Coventry Baths diving area to allow lifeguards time to dry out.
Sharp witted, artistic and uncomplaining Rom could hold a pint, a crib hand and a domino with great aplomb (often combining these talents).
The funeral service will be held at St Paul's Church in Leicester Street at 2.00 pm on Wednesday 17th September. All are welcome to attend, please feel free to dress cheerfully in celebration of Rom's life. No flowers please instead any charitable donations to Myton Hospice or Cancer research.
There will be a gathering at the Hope and Anchor Inn in Leicester Street immediately following the service.
