It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lance Hathway of Nantyglo, aged 86 years. Lance passed away peacefully at home on the 13th of May 2025, after several years of ill health. A former steelworker and keen rugby player in his youth, Lance found joy in simple pleasures - music, good food, and spending time with loved ones. A beloved husband, father and grandfather, Lance is survived by his loving wife Violeta, son Russell, and daughter-in-law Maribel. His grandchildren - Adele, Annabel and Cara - were the light of his later years, and a constant source of pride. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all his family and friends.
His Funeral Mass will be celebated at Our Lady & Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Abergavenny, on Friday 20th of June 2025, at 9.30am. For those who are unable to attend, his funeral will be live streamed on the church website, please visit: https://www.olsm-abergavenny.co.uk/
Following the Funeral Mass, Commital will take place at Brynmawr Cemetery, at 11.30am. For those unable to attend the graveside service, light refreshments will be available from 11.30am, at The Gwesty, 1 Clarence Street, Brynmawr NP23 4EH.
In recognition of the excellent care Lance received during his final days, the family request donations to the Hospice of the Valleys, in lieu of flowers (link below). The family also wish to express their gratitude to everyone involved in his care, particularly his carers Tammy, Diva, Cath and Donna.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace ✝
