John Betts left us peacefully at Edwalton Manor Nursing Home on Saturday 13th December, aged 88, after bravely facing dementia. Born in Birmingham, John moved to the Bingham area when he was a young man. He was stationed at RAF Newton during his National Service. John's life was a shining example of love, joy and resilience. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He took immense pride in his family and inspired everyone with his zest for life.
For over 50 wonderful years, John shared his journey with his beloved wife Rosemary. In later years he found companionship and happiness with Doreen Nuthall, whom he met through the local walking group, embracing new friendships and experiences with an open heart.
A true pillar of the Bingham community, John's warmth and good humour touched all who knew him. His lifelong passion for cricket was central to who he was. At Bingham Cricket Club he played, umpired and later served as a chairman, giving countless hours to the sport and the people who loved it as much as he did. He was equally enthusiastic about dominoes and after retiring he discovered a love for golf, always eager to try something new.
His home on Newton Avenue was filled with laughter, stories and the company of friends and neighbours. As a grandfather, John was devoted, playful and endlessly proud, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
John's legacy is one of kindness, optimism and a life well lived. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the priviledge to know him.
