John was one of life’s true gentlemen, a kind, considerate, and deeply thoughtful man who touched the lives of all who knew him. He loved his wife, Paddy, devotedly and was heartbroken by her passing in 2013. Their bond remained a defining part of his life.
John played an important and much valued role within his family, always there to support, guide, and encourage, especially when it came to the children. He had a great love of books and chess, passions he delighted in sharing. He never visited without bringing a book or a chess set, hoping to spark curiosity and learning in young minds.
A very social man, John had many wonderful friends and greatly enjoyed spending time with them, whether meeting at the pub or attending events connected to his much loved Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. These friendships meant a great deal to him and brought him immense joy.
John will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and he will be remembered with affection, gratitude, and respect.
