It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Avril Anne Surridge. She died peacefully on Thursday 14th March 2024 at Chawley Grove Care Home, Cumnor.
Avril was a cherished Mother to Carole, Michele & Stuart, Grandmother to Emma, Robert, Christian, Rachael, Jack & Sophia and Great-Grandmother to Isabella, Charlie & Henry. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love and devotion to all those close to her, and we will all miss her dearly.
Avril devoted a great deal of her life helping others; throughout her long career in teaching in Walton-on-Thames, Woking, and Stanwell and then later her voluntary work for Diabetes UK, Patient Panel, Lions Club, and of course for her beloved family and many dear friends.
There will be a Funeral Service on Thursday 25th April at 1:00pm at St Mary’s Church, Church Street, Walton on Thames KT12 2QS.
The burial will be after the service at Weybridge Cemetery
We would welcome everyone attending the funeral service to join us in a celebration of mum’s life at the Oatlands Park Hotel, 146 Oatlands Drive KT13 9HB afterwards.
It would be a help to know if you are planning to attend the funeral and celebration and if you have any dietary needs. Please email: micheledeangeli@icloud.com
Flowers/donations
We therefore feel that it would be most fitting to respectfully ask that anyone planning to send or bring flowers to the funeral, consider instead making a donation to one of the two charities we have selected:
Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism: The Diabetes team at OCDEM are simply amazing and we cannot thank them enough for the wonderful care and support they provided to our Mum over the last 10 years of her life.
Diabetes UK: Mum lived with Type 1 Diabetes for more than 47 years, during which time the science and technology behind supporting people with this condition changed dramatically; from boiling reusable glass syringes in a saucepan to sterilise them, all the way to wireless devices enhanced by artificial intelligences. Mum saw it all and Diabetes UK (formerly the British Diabetic Association), contributed greatly to those, and many other positive changes, around helping people with Diabetes.
We feel that supporting either of these very worthy causes is an appropriate way to pay our respects to Mum and honour both her memory and lasting legacy of love and care. If you would like to give you can donate through our JustGiving page : https://www.justgiving.com/team/avril-surridge
Thank you
Carole, Michele & Stuart
