In Loving Memory of Caroline
Caroline was a truly beautiful person, both inside and out. Warm, kind, generous and effortlessly friendly, she had an infectious smile that could light up a room and a wonderfully wicked sense of humour that brought laughter to so many. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome and at ease, and if someone needed help, Caroline was always there.
But beneath that warmth and gentle smile was also a strong and determined woman. Caroline stood firmly for the things she believed in and was never afraid to speak up when something was wrong, particularly when it came to the rights of Deaf people.
Unbeknown to many, Caroline was instrumental in helping to bring about an important change so that DWP reviews, where required, are now supported by a BSL interpreter. It was typical of Caroline that she would fight not simply for herself, but to make things better for other people too. It is one of the many legacies she leaves behind.
And then, of course, there were the dogs.
Caroline's love of dogs—especially Bullmastiffs—was legendary. They brought her enormous happiness, and she loved the many weekends spent travelling to dog shows, both at home and around the world. Those trips brought adventures, friendships, laughter and countless happy memories. Anyone who knew Caroline knew just how much that world meant to her.
Caroline was one of those rare people who left a lasting impression wherever she went. Since her passing, the sheer number of beautiful messages, memories and tributes has shown just how many lives she touched. Perhaps most remarkably, tributes have even come from people she had never had the chance to meet, yet who had somehow still been touched by her kindness, her determination, her reputation or simply the person they knew her to be.
There is immense sadness in losing Caroline far too soon, but there is happiness too—in remembering that smile, that wicked humour, the laughter, the dogs, the adventures and all those little moments that seemed so ordinary at the time but now mean absolutely everything.
To have known Caroline was a privilege.
To have laughed with her was a joy.
And to have loved her as her husband was the greatest gift of all.
Home is not always four walls and a roof.
Sometimes home is a person—a sweet girl with the most beautiful eyes in the world, and a smile you could get lost in every single time you saw it.
Caroline, you were my home.
The world feels quieter without you in it. There is an emptiness where your voice, your laughter and your beautiful smile should be, and I cannot begin to put into words how much I miss you.
But alongside the heartbreak is an overwhelming gratitude that, out of all the people in this world, I was lucky enough to find you, to love you and to share my life with you.
So please wait for me, darling.
I will carry you with me in everything I do and everywhere I go. And when my own time eventually comes, I will do everything in my power to find you again.
Until then, you will never truly leave me.
You are in my heart, in my memories and in every part of the life we shared.
I love you so very much, Caroline. Always have. Always will.
