It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gunta, who was a loving partner of Barry (Sam) Selman, her fiancee of more than 50 years! She was a very patient lady!
Gunta was born in 1946, after World War II, as a refugee in a displaced person's camp. She was grateful for a very happy childhood in Neston DP Camp, making many friends from different countries.
Many people in Melksham would have known Gunta from her work in the post room at the Avon.
She died on Wednesday 21st February 2024 at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, neighbours and members of the Latvian community.
Gunta and Barry met as a result of a blind date that lasted a lifetime.....
As she was a refugee, if you would like to make a donation in memory of Gunta, please do so to 'The British Red Cross Society', using the 'JustGiving' link above and below.
Gunta requested a simple cremation without a service. A 'Celebration of her Life' will be planned close to her birthday in the summer.
