William Armstrong Warman

1953 – 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William Armstrong Warman, who died peacefully on 22nd April 2025, aged 71.

Born and raised in Toll Bar, William – known fondly to many as Will – lived a life full of character, warmth, and vibrant colour. In his younger years, he worked fitting television aerials across Doncaster, scaling rooftops and helping bring the world into people's living rooms.

Later, he became a beloved fixture of the Bentley community as the proud owner of The Cobblers Corner, his shoe repair shop which served locals for over four decades. For many, the name Will Warman is instantly recognisable – a friendly face, long hair, and colourful suits that made him a memorable part of the town’s identity.

Beyond his work, Will had a deep love of nature. A keen gardener and allotment keeper, he found peace among the plants and joy in birdwatching.

He married his beloved wife Janet, and together they raised three children: Gary, Karen, and Michael. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Lucy and Harry, and there was no shortage of laughter and mischief when they were together.

Family holidays were especially dear to him, with fond memories made in Bridlington and Great Yarmouth – places that brought him joy and connection with those he loved most. Will had a particular fondness for sea fishing during these trips, often spending hours by the water with a line cast, stubbornly determined to catch something – and equally determined not to let it go once he had. These fishing trips became a cherished part of family lore and a source of many shared smiles.

In his later years, Will became a true social butterfly. He loved nothing more than an evening of music, dancing, and good company at the Catholic Club or Top Club, and he was a regular and enthusiastic supporter of the arts, often attending shows at the Doncaster Little Theatre.

Will was a true gentleman, and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, community spirit, and unmistakable style. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
