It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melserta Amazina Howard on 22 June 2026 - our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.
Born in Portland, Jamaica, on 19 April 1933, Melserta later moved to London, where she made her home with her husband George Arthur Howard. She was the daughter of Linda and Arthur Reid, sister to Stanford Barclay, Percy Barclay, and Ziporah Mayers, and a devoted mother to Brenda Husbands, Beverley Stanford, Norman Howard, Sona Thompson, Hugh Howard, Sharon Howard, Paulette Jackson, and Yvonne Howard. Melserta worked as an orderly nurse at Whittington Hospital and was a dedicated member of Christ Church, where her love of baking, cooking and organising church events brought joy to those around her.
A loyal friend and a steadfast advocate for fairness, she is remembered for her compassion, style and her words of encouragement: "Don't mind - you'll get through..."
Melserta will be deeply missed and always remembered.
