Please pray for Beryl, who died peacefully after a short illness at The Gables Nursing Home in Pudsey, on 22nd December.
As a child she attended St Matthias Church, Burley, and later as an adult became a long-standing and faithful member of St Thomas' Church, Stanningley. There, at various times, she served as PCC Secretary and churchwarden, and was a member throughout of the Mothers' Union. She played a very full part in the worship and prayers, but also in its social events - her take on life was always interesting and often full of humour. She had a particular capacity for welcoming new people.
Beryl spent her entire working career at Eagle Star Insurance in Leeds, where many of her enduring friendships were first formed. She was a very organised administrator and was held in high esteem by the management, eventually finishing as a PA to one of the Directors.
In the second half of the 1990s, Beryl became a close friend to fellow church-member, Josie Rowe. When Josie died during the Covid pandemic, Beryl - who was naturally a sociable person - found the bereavement hard, and perhaps never quite recovered her previous zest and energy from the effects of lockdown and social isolation.
As well as being held in much affection at her own church, she frequently visited Lancashire to stay with close friends, to whom she became something of an unoffical grandmother. She took much delight in her role there, and got to know a number of the congregation at St Peter's Church Haslingden, where she will also be missed.
She was dearly loved and will be sadly mourned. She died surrounded by lots of Christmas cards, sent from well-wishers near and far away.
May she rest in peace, and rise in glory.
