Many of you may know of George Williams through his reputation, work, friendship. Some of the tributes we've received show what a huge contribution he made through his dedication to public service. From his humble but solid and decent beginnings, he rose to the highest positions. His elevated status never stopped him from maintaining friendships with people from every walk of life.
For us, he was our dad, our grandad and someone we cherished daily.
In the way he dealt with life after his stroke, he was nothing short of an inspiration. Paralysed down one side, with aphasia destroying much of his ability to speak and read, his strength of character meant he remained able to build new friendships and he maintained his fierce independence of spirit.
We will miss him terribly, but we are the better for having known him.
