Mrs Maureen Farrier

17th December 1938 - 23rd September 2024

Flowers welcome

Maureen Farrier passed away peacefully at home, on 23 September 2024 after a two-year brave battle against cancer. Her loving grandson Dan Jackson and his partner Imi Fox were at her side.

Maureen was born in Paisley Scotland, on December 17, 1938, as Maureen Gresham.  Her parents were Alice and Longford (Len) Gresham. Maureen had four brothers, Longford (deceased), Alaster (deceased), Norman (deceased), and Ross.  She is survived by her daughter Margaret (husband Greg), her son Timothy (wife Sue), 6 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.  Maureen survived her second husband Joe Farrier, the love of her life, by four years.

Maureen spent her childhood in Scotland, traveling regularly to Ireland with her family, to visit relatives. She spoke fondly of those trips as they left a strong impression on her.  At the age of 20, Maureen married her first husband, began her family, and moved to Asia.  As part of the Royal Air Force family, she spent many happy years in Malaysia and Singapore.  During that time, she ministered alongside her husband.

After returning to England, they continued in the Ministry. After moving house a number of times, she ultimately settled in the Wolverhampton area. She worked in retail over three decades, a career she thoroughly enjoyed, as it brought her into contact with many diverse people. Maureen relished nothing more than to spend time with friends, talking, and sharing life memories.

After her first marriage ended, Maureen expanded her love of singing and dancing.  It was at a dance that she met the man who would become her husband, best friend, and long-term partner, Joe. Together, they spent many years traveling the world, dancing, and enjoying each other’s company.  At home on the farm, they were happy and content.  They danced, laughed, and loved. Maureen had a deep love of animals of all sorts.  Her passion for their care and feeding lasted until her final days. Maureen continued Joe’s legacy on the farm, ensuring Westcroft farm, the animals that reside there, and their owners were happy and well cared for.  As her health declined, she passed the reigns of management of the farm and its inhabitants to her grandson Dan, who continues the legacy today.  Throughout her life, Maureen was strong of faith and a devout Christian.  She further extended her family into the church, and sang with vigor in the church choir and wherever else she could.  Singing and dancing were her true passions.  Maureen further felt deeply about women in need and homelessness.

A farewell service will be held at Bushberry Crematorium on Tuesday 8 October, at 4 pm.  Afterwards, a Celebration of Her Life will be hosted at the Pavilion on Stafford Road – a place she and Joe spent many happy hours.  All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Good Shepherd Charity Wolverhampton.
