It is with great sadness that we share the passing of John Watters McClenahan, who left us peacefully on 24th December 2025, following a battle with cancer.
John was a man of many passions throughout his life, from computing to wood-working, amateur flying to bell-ringing, literature to travel. Through his diverse interests, John made many friends and touched many lives, both locally and all over the world. He will be remembered for his unwavering positivity, his intellectual curiosity, his generosity of spirit, and his love of limericks and good whisky.
John, or “JW” as he was fondly known by many, was preceded in death by his beloved wife Suzanne (d. 2018), and is survived by his three sons John, Hal and Chris, and his ten grandchildren. A cherished stepfather, brother, granddad and uncle, he will be sorely missed.
A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Friday 23rd January 2026 at 1:30pm, at West Herts Crematorium in Garston (WD25 0JS). All are welcome. In keeping with John’s personality, black attire is not essential and you are welcome to wear bright colours if you wish. We also ask that instead of sending flowers, you donate to The Hospice of St Francis Berkhamsted, who provided excellent care for John - www.stfrancis.org.uk/make-a-donation.
