It is with a heavy heart that we as a family announce the passing of Rodger Burgess, Inspector Burgess (retired), Boss, Rodger, dad as he was to me or simply grandad.

Dad, passed away on the 25th Novmber and his funeral is to be held on the 18th December 2025.

His career was devoted to Cheshire constabulary, but his life was devoted to his wife Marion, his children - my sister Diane and I, and his grandchildren Morgan and Cody.

During his career he saw so much, experienced highs and lows, put his life in danger to protect the public (even when not woking this never ended). We would often hear about this tales, in a somewhat diluted version at the end of the shift or years later. Many are lost forever, but some are recorded in a Bobby's Tail.

When not working he loved walking, photography and wood work.  Retirement gave more time to persue these activities as well spending time with Marion and Morgan & Cody, he enjoyed time at the caravan on Anglesey, he established a walking group and a family history group (he would often be found dragging mum around cold damp grave yards with the promise of a cup of tea to reveal the lastest 'find').  He achieved his ambition of writing and having a book published (Cheshire Secrets From The Past)

In later years he took it slightly easier still walking but played snooker (badly) and ping pong ( table tennis for those not in the know) and established a local group, although world champions need not feel threatened but brought joy to many.

Over the years, we had many Rodgerism's from " its only round the next corner" to "you can go off some people you know" to "i'm clearing the garage to build a boat, how big is the boat I asked, about 3 inches came the reply!"

In the end it was a source of comfort that Morgan and Cody were with him as he entered this new phase.

Sleep well Rodger, grandad, dad, boss

David & family
