Derek John Lacey, aged 78, passed away at his home on 26 July 2026.
 
He is survived by his son, Owain, his sister Linda, and his nephews Christopher and Simon. He was also the father of Bryn, who sadly passed away ten years ago.
 
Cricket was one of the great passions of his life. He devoted many years to Chingford Cricket Club, both as a player and as an umpire, and was honoured to serve as President of the club. Cricket remained an important part of his life for many years, and he made a lasting contribution to the club.
 
He also had a great love of travel and adventure. Throughout his life he travelled extensively, spending many summers in Spain and making numerous trips to the United States, with Las Vegas being a particular favourite. In his later years, he continued to travel and enjoyed many cruises, including several round-the-world voyages as well as journeys around South America and the Caribbean.
 
He lived a full and varied life, with a love of cricket, travel and new experiences. He will be remembered by his family, friends and the many people he met throughout his life.
