Michael John Wilkinson passed away peacefully at his home in Maghull on Sunday 26th October 2025, he was 88 years of age. Mike was born in Aston Clinton, in the vale of Aylesbury, Buckinghampshire in 1937. He was one of four brothers and a sister.

In 1955 Mike enlisted into the Royal Air Force and the following year he was posted to Cyprus as part of the UK's response to the Suez Crisis. From 1959 he worked in the shoe trade, eventually managing shops off Leicester Square. then Cardiff and Bracknell. In the late 1960's Mike took a dramatic job change, training to become a psychiatric nurse at Broadmoor Hospital, where he was involved in the treatment of some of Britain's most infamous criminals.

Throughout his life Mike gave his time generously to other people and organisations. He volunteered with the Civil Defense Corps which had been established in 1949 to prepare for and assist in national emergencies, particularly during the cold war. As part of this role, Mike was a responder at the Aberfan Disaster in 1966. He helped to run the Kirkby Sea Cadet Unit, and Volunteered as a Welfare Officer for the Royal Air Force Association, where he was awarded a North Western Area Presidential Certificate in recognition of his service.

A talented artist and avid traveller, Mike rarely went anywhere without his sketch pad. With his beloved wife Marion, and often in the company of dear friends Betty, John, Geoff and Barbara he explored the world - from South Africa, Canada, and the USA to Scandinavia, the Mediterranean and the Baltic. Closer to home, he cherished time in the Lake District and loved to share boating holidays on the Thames and beyond with dear friends Brian & Elsie.

Michael's life will be celebrated at Southport Crematorium on Wednesday 26th November at 2pm. Followed by a relaxed gathering at 5 Deyes End, Maghull L31 6DP
