Passed away peacefully after a short illness at Warrington Hospital on 27th April 2025, aged 95 years. Adored wife of the late Howard, and beloved mum to Richard, Janet and Nicholas. Grandma to Chloe and Christopher, Alexandra, Katherine and Victoria, mother-in-law to Masha and Ian, aunty, cousin and loyal friend to many.
Jean was a committed and energetic member of St Peter's Church, Newton-Le-Willows for over 60 years since moving to the area from Birkenhead in 1962. She was a founding member of the Young Wives group in the early nineteen - sixties along with Ann Stockton and others, and then became a member of the Mother's Union, including various leadership roles locally and in the diocese.
With a lifelong passion for child care, she was instrumental in establishing the Newton Playgroup in the Civic Hall on Park Road North, and later re-trained as a Nursery Nurse and went on to work at Patterson Street nursery in Earlestown until she retired. Jean continued to support her community as a member of the St Peter's Church congregation and also served on the Parochial Church Council for many years, and as a school governor for St Peter's Church of England School and Red Bank School.
She continued to be active throughout her long life spending time with her beloved grandchildren in England and the USA, participating in the Barnado's children's charity, various other charities and in the local Women's Club. Jean touched the lives of many and will be forever loved and remembered.
She is already deeply missed by her family and friends.
Can we ask that only family attend at St Helens Crematorium and that we would like family flowers only.
