It is with deep sadness we announce the death of Mr David Allen Harrison on Monday 27th May 2024, aged 97 years, a much loved father, grandfather and great grandfather.

After Ackworth School (to 1942) he attended the Polytechnic Regent Street London (to 1945) .   He was conscripted into the Royal Engineers and served with the 272nd RE Works Company, the 1283rd AWC (German PW) RE and the 1272nd AWC RE in Egypt and Libya carrying out post-war reconstruction (to 1948).  As a MICE in civilian life he worked for DOCP in Chesterfield (to 1949), then Hertforshire County Council (to 1952), and then the Sierra Leone Government Railway based in Bauya and Cline Town Freetown (to 1955).  He was then employed by Posford Pavry & Partners Consultant Engineers as a Resident Engineer in Dagenham, Truro and Newcastle (to 1960).  He joined NIRNS/SRC at the Rutherford High Energy Laboratory as Head of the Buildings Group, also working at Oxford University, Appleton Laboratory, Edinburgh Observatory, Chilbolton Observatory, CERN in Geneva, and the Royal Greenwich Observatory in Herstmonceux and La Palma (to 1982).
