Oana Hull passed away peacefully at Dearbourne Manor on Wednesday 27 August 2025, aged 89 years, surrounded by close family.

She lived through extraordinary times and led a fascinating life.

The second of three sisters born before the Second World War in Bucharest to a Romanian father and English mother, Oana came to the UK in 1946. She married Charles in May 1960.

She was intelligent and well read: a voracious reader, she would devour 6 or 7 books at the same time. Her mother wrote that at aged three she could recite poetry in four different languages, and when coming to England - without being able to speak English - she obtained a scholarship to St Pauls School, then the highest performing school in the land.

She was a recognised amateur actress and tea-chest bass player in a skiffle group in her youth, and a fierce campaigner for women's rights in the 1960s. Throughout her life she had an acute sense of style and fashion and a wonderful eye for interior decoration. She loved Middle Eastern architecture, culture and cuisine and was a collector of Persian rugs. A firm believer in the idea that you could learn anything from books, she taught herself many skills including cookery, Italian and electronic keyboard, and created many artworks including painted tiles and large tapestries.

She also closely followed the many ups and downs of Arsenal FC every season for over six decades.

She was a kind and loving mother to her three children and grandmother to eight grandchildren and a devoted wife for over 65 years to Charles - all of whom adored her.

Oana will be so fondly remembered by her family and friends.

We request that those wishing to attend the Funeral or Wake let Oana's son, Bill know (via text 07801 812303) so that we can keep a track of likely numbers

Our nominated charity is the Seahorse Trust that is run by the Worshipful Company of Pewterers with which she and Charles were so closely associated - Oana was an Honorary Liveryman and Master's Lady in 1992/93.

If you would like to make a donation in memory of Oana, all proceeds will go to The Seahorse Trust.
