Michael John Bates was born on 16th November 1929 and sadly “Crossed the Bar” on Monday 31st July aged 96. He died peacefully in his sleep following a short illness. He was husband to Anne of 73 years, father to Nigel and Susan; a grandfather to Amy, Ben, Zoe and Lydia and great grandfather to Tommy, Joey, Mia, Lucy and Layla.
A Master Marriner through and though, he loved the sea and returned to it again and again throughout his life.
Your watch is over, your duties are done.
The final eight bells have rung, and you are relieved.
