In the community

An active role in the community

“With a clear commitment to community involvement, Dignity provides advice and practical help for staff who want to get involved locally and play a real part in the communities they serve.”

Giving something back

Dignity staff are very proactive in their local communities, helping with local and national fundraising events, and donating their time to help good causes and charities.

We run and take part in hundreds of events nationwide supporting a wide variety of local and national charities. During 2007, staff at Holmsford Bridge Crematorium, in Irvine, held a charity bowling night and raised money for Malcolm Sargent House, a local charity working to support families of children with cancer. Across Scotland, our branches joined forces and held a dinner dance raising over £8000 for local causes.

Big or small, our community activities capture the imagination: fishing competitions have been held in Thanet by staff at Hambrook & Johns in Dover, toys, books and Easter eggs collected across the country and donated to schools, hospitals and hospices for children, plus sponsored treks by bike and on foot as well as the free use of fleet vehicles are just some of the thousands of activities our staff are involved in, in their communities.

With a clear commitment to community involvement, Dignity provides advice and practical help for staff who want to get involved locally and play a real part in the communities they serve.

Charity of the Year 2008
Help the Hospices

The majority of charities we work with are chosen at a local level by staff. However during the successful Dignity Tsunami Appeal in 2006, our staff demonstrated a willingness to work together for a common cause, in addition to their other charitable activities.

In 2008 staff have voted to support Help the Hospices, aiming to raise £25,000 for hospices across the country, with branches working alongside local hospices to raise much needed funds in support of their community.

The appeal will officialy start in January 2008 and run until January 2009. Corporate partnerships manager for Help the Hospices, Stephen Ballantyne comments: “On behalf of hospices across the UK, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Dignity staff for voting Help the Hospices as your charity partner for 2008. I know many Dignity funeral homes already do a lot of fundraising for their local hospice and I’m sure staff will get right behind the partnership and help support hospices in their communities across the UK.”
