What do Dignity funeral directors do?

Here at Kirkwoods Funeral Directors, we are often asked what we do or what a typical day looks like for a funeral director.
Support families ...
There's no such thing as a 'typical' day at Kirkwoods Funeral Directors. We make ourselves available 24/7, which means at least one funeral director remains on call outside of normal opening hours. A dedicated member of our team will be on hand to collect the deceased, meet the family and offer their support.

Although care for the departed is an important feature of the role, we understand that it is of equal importance to look after those who have been left behind. Our Funeral Directors have a certain duty of care, part of which is to reassure the family at what is an extremely difficult time. Those experiencing loss will have choices to make regarding the funeral, so we aim to support them as fully, and as empathetically as possible in reaching those decisions.
Supporting family members at a funeral service
It is important that a funeral reflects the family's wishes. That's why our funeral directors will take the time to listen and understand more about the kind of person the deceased was, and what they meant to the family, before making recommendations about the appropriate funeral service. This ensures that our funeral directors continue to provide the best possible service to the Belfast community they are so proud to be a part of.

Kirkwoods Funeral Directors can also offer support with the administrative side of bereavement, which may feel overwhelming to any family dealing with the loss of a loved one. This might include guidance on paperwork that must be completed, along with advice to ensure it is correct and, where necessary, submitted within a timely manner.

The care offered by our funeral directors is universal, with every single person receiving compassionate and attentive treatment as part of our 'care of the deceased' process.

To ensure a loved one is looked after in accordance with their family's wishes, our teams of funeral arrangers, embalmers and operatives are trained to perform their duties to the highest standards. From the moment of collection through to the final goodbye.

Whether it's working with local care homes, training the clergy in funeral procedures, or advising public bodies about the importance of the right care for the deceased and their family, being a part of Dignity means our funeral directors are always ready and willing to assist.
