Dad was a man of integrity, a fabulous father and friend to all.
For those who knew him will know that he was a kind, loving, caring, generous, interested and honourable man. Generous to a T, he would normally be first to the bar to buy a round of drinks. He was interested in people and life and loved passing time with all ages, but especially at the bar of a lovely old hostelry, or enjoying a meal with friends and family.
In his early years he was an accomplished sportsman at school and academically strong going on to be head boy and captain of the cricket and football teams of his grammar school. Playing cricket was a constant in his earlier life and he played for teams at work and when in the air force whilst completing his national service. He turned down the chance of training as a flight engineer for the new Canberra Jet Bomber, as this required a seven-year commitment. After two years he returned to the insurance business, for which a job had been left open for him. He was also seriously courting mum so that was another lure. After finding insurance not really to his taste he moved to the engineering business, which he kept at, as a partner, to the end of his career. In that time he managed a stint as president of EIA (Engineering Industries Association) for his region. Also he, with mum, devoted a lot of time to Rotary and he was president of the Bermondsey area 113 twice.
And of course on top of the above he was devoted to my mother June and to me as their only child.
He will be greatly missed by many. He was a true gentleman, with a full and long life well lived.
