Celebrating the life of Richard Perrins
Richard Allan Perrins, age 55, of St Austell, passed away on 7 January 2025, surrounded by his family, at his home in Cornwall.
Richard was born on 17 January 1969 at the North Staffordshire Hospital in Stoke on Trent to Jacky and Allan Perrins. He spent much of his younger life in Staffordshire with his brother Paul and sister Claire, enjoying holidays in Wales and Europe.
In 1988, he embarked on a new chapter when he signed up to join the Royal Navy. Completing his basic training at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth, his competitive nature shone through when he won the prestigious Owen Cup for Best Recruit. Five years in the Navy followed, with Rich spending his 21st birthday under the North Pole on a submarine.
In 1993, he joined Staffordshire Police Force and a long and distinguished career followed as a Detective Constable. He was well respected and liked by his colleagues and was particularly proud of his achievements protecting vulnerable children from harm.
On 5 August 2000, in bright sunshine, he married the love of his life Sarah at Sandon Hall. The couple moved to Bramshall, Staffordshire and built a happy life surrounded by their beautiful daughters Yasmin and Grace and dear family and friends.
On his 50th birthday, Richard officially retired from the Police Force and followed his life-long dream to move to Cornwall. The family set up home near Charlestown and embraced the coastal lifestyle. Richard was most at home on the water and loved being out on a boat, walking his dog Luna on the beach or dining out overlooking the sea with friends.
Sadly, cancer took him way too young, but we will be forever grateful that he got to live his dream!
Richard was a beloved husband to Sarah, father to Yasmin and Grace, son to Jacky and Allan, brother to Paul and Claire, son-in-law to Jackie and Richard and a best friend to too many to name.
He lit up the room and loved life with a passion, so please join us to celebrate and keep his memory alive – he would have wanted that!
As you know, Rich was not into wearing suits (who could forget his Asda court suit!). He will be wearing his favourite Hawaiian shirt, so please wear something bright or whatever makes you feel good.
