It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Geoffrey Rivers, who died peacefully at home on 8th April 2025, aged 82.
Geoff will be lovingly remembered by his son Gary and daughter-in-law Colleen, his sister Diane and her husband Stephen, and by his daughter-in-law Laura. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Eilidh, Ciara, Nathan, and Alex. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years, and by his son Stephen, who he carried in his heart always.
Born on 21st February 1943, Geoff dedicated his professional life to the maritime world as a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer. He began his career with an apprenticeship at Cammell Laird and went on to spend over four decades in the industry before retiring. His dedication, craftsmanship, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Outside of his work, Geoff found joy and peace in his garden. A keen and patient gardener, he took great pride in nurturing life and colour in his outdoor space—his garden was a place of quiet happiness and reflection.
A funeral service to honour Geoff’s life will be held at Chester Crematorium, at 10am on Tuesday 29th April. All who knew him are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the British Heart Foundation and Dementia UK, in Geoff’s memory.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
