Arthur John Frederick Williams
Of Cardiff, South Wales
Former Kiap of Papua New Guinea
It is with great love and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Arthur John Frederick Williams, who died peacefully at Heath University Hospital on 09th April, aged 86 surrounded by loved ones.
Arthur was a man of great integrity, compassion, and wit. Born and raised in Cardiff, South Wales, he spent over 30 years in Papua New Guinea, where he served with dedication as a kiap—a colonial patrol officer—navigating remote terrain, bridging cultures, and contributing to the development of local communities. In the latter part of those 30 years, he continued his service to the people of PNG as a politician and an NGO. His time there shaped the man he became, and the relationships he built endured for a lifetime.
With his big heart and care for humanity he spent his retirement working with Christians Against Torture and Support for Romania.
He was a storyteller, a thinker, and a fiercely loyal friend. Arthur had a sharp mind, a dry sense of humour, and a generous heart. He leaves behind a large and loving family, including his children, Debbie, Helen, Anna, Kathy, Phyllis, Susie and Rosie, and grandchildren across both the UK, Cyprus, and Papua New Guinea, each a testament to the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
He will be remembered for his strength, his humility, and the love he gave so freely.
Resting at DJ Evans and Forse, until the cremation on the 22nd of May 2025 at Thornhill Crematorium, Thornhill Road, Cardiff, CF14 9UA at 09:00am. Followed by a memorial service at 10:00am at Ararat Baptist Church, Plas Treoda, Whitchurch, CF14 1PT.
Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate a life well lived.
For those who are unable to be with us in person, especially our dear family and friends in Papua New Guinea and beyond, the funeral service will be live-streamed, allowing you to join us in spirit as we give thanks for Arthur’s life and entrust him into God’s eternal care.
Streaming details will be available upon request through the family or the funeral home.
