Kristine Pourgourides
1941-2026
A survivor of wartime internment in China, Kristine went on to build a remarkable 50‑year nursing career in Britain—exceptional in its breadth and imbued with the unmistakable Florence Nightingale touch.
Born in Hankow in 1941, she spent her early years in the turmoil of war before her family settled in Bray, Ireland. Her Catholic faith, passed down from her parents, remained central throughout her life.
She trained at the Royal Northern Hospital in London, qualifying in 1962, and went on to serve in nursing, midwifery, occupational health and later psychodynamic counselling. Known for her kindness, she was generous with her time and often helped others quietly. She cherished her friendships and kept them close.
Kristine was a devoted wife of 54 years to Andreas, and a loving mother to Alex, Christopher and Nicholas, and grandmother to Jack and Isla.
Her legacy lives on in the people whose lives she touched.
