From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Amazing
After my dads funeral a few years ago we didn’t hesitate to ask them to do my mum’s funeral
Takes the worry off your shoulders so you can deal with your grief
Everyone is so lovely especially Dee and Roya who was our celebrant
Thank you all so much xxx
Excellent caring service from Dee.
I cannot express enough how lovely the team at Blake & Horlock Enfield were. They made everything just right for my dad’s funeral and I couldn’t have asked for more. From the celebrant, to the flowers and the lovely Dee, it was perfect. Dee even called a few days to later to check how we were. Would definitely use them again.
The day my daughter and I walked into Blake & Horlock and was greeted by Dee we were confident everything was going to be just as we wanted. I had used B&H 14 yrs ago and was pleased with the service we received .
It was my Mother who had passed this time, the whole experience was exceptional and was guided by Dee who I cannot thank enough.Dee listened and advised and everything we asked for she made possible. There was no hard selling and Dee was with us to the end of Mums journey. The funeral was perfect and Caroline and her team were exceptional. Everyone was very professional and showed us so much respect and empathy.Even after the funeral there was a call from Dee checking in on us,
Thank you all for making Mums last journey perfect..Karen & Charlotte .
