With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Dr Peter Spofforth, who died peacefully at home, surrounded by his immediate family, at the age of 61, ten months after a diagnosis of a rare neuroendocrine cancer.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Peter was immensely proud of his roots and cherished his lifelong friendships. He studied medicine at the University of Liverpool, where he also met his beloved wife Ruth. In 2010, he moved with his young family to rural Cambridgeshire, embracing countryside life — perfecting his lawn, enjoying clay pigeon shooting, hosting weekly Sunday roast dinners, and spending time with his beloved black Labradors, to whom he was a devoted “pawrent.”
Peter’s passions were many: he loved rally driving, attending rock concerts, and playing guitar late into the night, filling his home with music and laughter. He was hilarious, kind, generous, humble, and fiercely loyal. As a doctor, he cared for his patients with compassion and integrity and supported his colleagues with the same generosity of spirit. As a husband, brother, father of four children, devoted dog owner, and true friend, he was a constant source of strength, joy, and love.
We warmly invite you to his funeral service at St Leonard's Church to celebrate his life, followed by a wake at Ely Golf Club. If you would like to honour Peter’s memory, donations to the charity Neuroendocrine Cancer UK would be greatly appreciated.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Dress code: Formal, with a colourful twist — Peter loved his jazzy ties!
