We are sad to announce the passing of Mrs Norma Long.
Norma Long (née Greaves), cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on 15 September 2025 at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. She was 85.
Born in 1939 in Huddersfield, Norma grew up on the Yorkshire moors, where she developed a deep and enduring love of the countryside. After attending her local school, she earned a place at Greenhead Girls’ High School - an achievement she always held close to her heart.
During a holiday with her sister Marion, Norma’s life took a fateful turn when she met Brian Allen Long while hitchhiking. The two soon fell in love, and after marrying, Norma moved to Wolverhampton. Norma and Brian were happily married for 63 years, raising three daughters together.
Norma built a rewarding career as a teacher, shaping and inspiring the lives of countless children. Outside of work, she and Brian shared a passion for travel. They enjoyed holidays across Europe - visiting Russia, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and many other places, and particularly loved boating holidays, which brought them great joy.
In 1980, Norma and Brian made their home in Blymhill, where Norma found a true sense of belonging and community. She remained there for the rest of her life, remembered by all who knew her for her warmth, devotion to her family, and quiet strength.
Norma was a devoted mother, grandmother to eleven, and great-grandmother to three. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by her family and friends. Her spirit lives on in the generations she nurtured and the many lives she touched.
