Olive was born in 1932 and brought up with her family in Marsden Street, South Shields. Olive was a keen sportswoman and tennis was her main love always trying to watch Wimbledon even taking time of work to do so. At sixteen Olive started her career at Sunderland and South Shields Water Company where she stayed until the birth of her two children Sheila and Peter, returning to work at the water company a few years later eventually being transferred from South Shields to Sunderland Offices, Olive worked in the revenue department as a cashier clerk but also covered reception and switchboard and could often be heard on the tannoy system searching for someone when they were not at their desk to take the call! Olive stayed there until her retirement in 1988.
Finding too much time on her hands Olive started working again at the Employement Office in Wawn Street. In 1992 Olive went to Norfolk for a holiday and ended up moving there with her partner Bob. Olive and Bob loved their garden winning prizes in the local garden competitions and keeping Koi carp in their Pond, which Peter got the dubious pleasure of cleaning out every Easter. Sadly Bob died in 1996 and Olive stayed on in Norfolk where she had made many friends. More tragedy was to follow in 1998 when sadly her daughter Sheila died, which Olive never quite recovered from.
In 2014 Olives health started to deteriorate and she returned to South Shields to be closer to her family enjoying some further years of independence in her little flat in Glenthorpe House, in her latter years when she needed more support Olive moved to Ashlea Mews Care Home where she was a much loved resident.
Sadly Olive passed away peacefully on the 15th October 2024 at the age of 91 years.
