Gillian sadly passed away on 18th November 2025. She will be deeply missed as a mum, grandma, great-grandma, sister-in-law, auntie, cousin, godmother and friend. Born in the 30's at a time of global uncertainty and depression, living through the war years initially in Blackpool and later in New Malden, she was brought up along with her brother Brian by her widowed mother, Helene. Gillian trained as a shorthand typist and as her first role worked as a PA at English Electric Company. She first met Bernard when she was 17, and he was 19. Special consent was required in the fifties to marry if under 21. Married in May 1952, she spent the first two years of her marriage living with her father-in-law as Bernard served his National Service as a Lance Corporal in the Royal Signals as a Trainer. Following this time, they moved first to Merton Road, Southfields and then, in August 1960, moved into 35 Oaks Avenue in Worcester Park, into a house built in the year Gillian was born - 1933. Here she lived and raised her two boys, Gregory and Stephen, and supported her husband until he died in 1988. Despite many adversities, she remained in her own home until March 2025, when she moved into the White House Nursing Home in New Malden. Although only there for eight months, they quickly came to know the real Gillian, now known as Gilly. Their condolences summed up much of her lifetime.
''Gillian was admired for her remarkable inner strength. She always wore a beautiful smile, which showed her kindness towards everyone''.
She will be missed by friends and family alike.
To celebrate Gillian's Life, there will be a church service at St James Church, followed by the Committal at Randalls Park. Following the Committal, there will be an informal buffet reception at The Star, Malden Rushett, KT22 0DP, from 5 pm to 7 pm, where all her friends and family are warmly invited.
Dress Code. Family would suggest dark colours, i.e., grey or navy blue, where possible, as a mark of respect, but recognise this may not be possible for everyone or for those coming during working hours, so please come as your circumstances allow. As Gillian liked her pink Roses, an addition of this colour would also be quite acceptable.
